Srinagar, May 15 (KNO): Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday directed the officials to formulate a plan for the revival of the tourism sector in Jammu and Kashmir. While chairing a joint meeting of tourism stakeholders and the officers, the Chief Minister, according to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), assured the stakeholders that the government will put in all the efforts to put things back on track. The meeting discussed concerns of the stakeholders in the aftermath of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that left 26 civilians, mostly tourists dead. The Chief Minister in a post on X, wrote that his government is fully committed to support the tourism sector and will consider the valuable suggestions of all. Manzoor Wangnoo, Chairman of the Nigeen Lake Conservation Organisation (NLCO) said that a high-level positive meeting was held today in which the participants’ put forth their valuable suggestions for the revival of the tourism sector and also the wellbeing of the people associated with it. He added that a suggestion was put forth regarding the daily workers associated with this sector. “Those who were earning their livelihood on a day-to-day basis are facing immense hardships at present. The chair was informed to look into their hardships and ensure that they will not be pushed to the wall,” he said. The participants hoped that they would witness a boom in tourism activities again. “But the present situation is grim, there is a need to take care of all the persons like ponywalas and others who earn their livelihood on a day-to-day basis,” they added. President of Hoteliers Club Kashmir, Mushtaq Chaya also stated that the valuable suggestions were given by the participants for the revival of the tourism sector in Jammu and Kashmir. Moreover, the participants also informed that the Secretary Tourism was asked to formulate a strategy and plan with the stakeholders to promote and revive the tourism sector again. The Chief Minister asked the stakeholders to double their efforts to attract the tourists and ensure successful and smooth conduct of the upcoming Amarnath Yatra. Pertinently, the people associated with the tourism sectors have faced huge losses following the terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, 2025 as the tourism activities have witnessed a decline. The bookings were cancelled and tourists present in the Valley left—(KNO)
